Role: Volunteer - Strategy Writer
Orangutan Appeal UK is in the planning stages of creating a new strategy for a rescue and rehabilitation centre. This project will be developed using ARCUS Guidelines – “Building Sustainable Sanctuaries” and this is where the volunteer position will be focused.
General description: The volunteer will help to create the content for stage two and subsequent stages of the strategy. The strategy will include, amongst other things, details on land suitability and purchase, building plans, operations and permits, staffing and role descriptions, equipment procurement and priorities, security, orangutan care and management, timelines and objectives.
This internship will offer the volunteer the chance to display their capabilities and will involve: Creating a report on all of the areas that will need consideration. Researching all areas thoroughly, covering all outcomes and possibilities. Monitoring and reporting on the activities of similar centres. Writing up notes clearly and keeping track of your progress. Developing a strategy, in stages.

Education: Educated to PhD level in Primatology, although would consider a volunteer near completion of a PhD.
Location: Brockenhurst HQ, Hampshire. We would consider home-based volunteering for the right volunteer. Work status: No set times or dates, to work around your availability, but would expect the volunteer to be available 2-3 days a week, between the hours of 9-5.
Expenses: This is an unpaid position as you will be a voluntary worker for the charity, see www.gov.uk/employment-rights-for-interns for further information. However, reasonable travel and lunch expenses will be covered.
Reporting: The volunteer will work alongside the charity founder / chairwoman, Susan Sheward MBE and charity manager, Emily Griffiths, to create strategic plans for the operational running of a centre.
